WASHINGTON – While hand-wringing continues in the White House and among Secret Service officials over an alleged gate-crashing of a state dinner, it appears Michaele and Tareq Salahi had met with Barack Obama previously when he served as a U.S. senator.
Though the Secret Service is taking the rap for the breach of protocol, the couple’s attorney is affirming the White House had cleared the Salahis as guests at the Tuesday night event.
A statement issued by Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan said the agency was “deeply concerned and embarrassed by the circumstances surrounding the State Dinner” and added that “the preliminary findings of our internal investigation have determined established protocols were not followed at an initial checkpoint, verifying that two individuals were on the guest list.”

Sullivan suggested that the couple had been screened for weapons, but should not have gained entry. “That failing is ours,” he said.

Reached by telephone Friday evening, the couple’s attorney, Paul W. Gardner, declined to comment. In an e-mail to Bloomberg News, Gardner added, “My clients were cleared by the White House to be there.”
Yet, a June 2005 photo from Polo Contacts Worldwide shows the Salahis with Obama at a pre-event to America’s Polo Cup. Others in the photo include American Idol’s Randy Jackson and members of the rock group Black Eyed Peas.
Salahi is a former board member of the American Task Force on Palestine.

OK, I don’t doubt the people in the picture, but the picture is from 2005 according to your article, however, when I clicked on on your link to the picture Polo Contacts Worldwide, in naming the names of the people in the picture, it names “President elect Obama” Obama wasn’t elected until 2008, and the picture is from 2005. My question is Obama wasn’t a president elect in 2005, so why does the picture give this misleading data if it is an authentic picture? This doesn’t sound right to me.
